Why is it everytime I feel a little off course with my eating, I go to my raw foods to feel better? Why everytime I feel sick or run down do I turn to my raw foods?  Maybe the answer is this simple, raw foods are fundamentally different than any other answer to my nutritional woes. Eating raw food is not just about the food but making the connection with and nourishing your body, mind, and spirit. Raw food is not complicated; it’s simply raw, uncooked food. The diet combines fresh fruits and vegetables with nuts, grains, beans, and seeds to provide maximum nutrition for your body. And the food is delicious!

Raw foods:

  • have more nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and fiber than cooked foods.
  • are digested quickly and easily
  • nourish your body with the vitamins, minerals, oxygen, and enzymes that whole, raw foods provide that your body needs
  • give you increased energy
  • provide you the life force of fresh, organic foods
  • are full of enzymes that are usually destroyed by heating the food, the enzymes are raw and active
  • strengthen the immune system
  • create a more alkaline state in your body
  • slow aging, help maintain optimal weight while skin and muscle tone improve

So what do you think? Give it a try! Feed your body with living, raw foods for a meal a day and see how you feel. It could be as simple as a yummy salad for lunch or you could try some raw recipes for yourself. The internet is loaded with raw food sites. Here’s a very simple, tasty recipe to start. You may just be amazed at the results!

Walnut Tacos

1 cup walnuts- finely ground in food processor

Put in a mixing bowl and add 1.5 Tablespoons Nama Shoyu (raw soy sauce), 1.5 teaspoons cumin, 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon ground coriander, dash of cayenne. Mix well.

This is my variation of several walnut taco recipes- there are many to choose from out there. You should play with the spices until you get them where you like. I toss some of this in a green salad for extra flavor and protein, make wraps with romaine lettuce and salsa, or tacos with flax seed shells, nut cheese, lettuce, and salsa. It’s very versatile and tasty!! Enjoy!
